Cypress Swamp Forests Zone 9

Soils are composed of silts and other sediments with variable amounts of peat and other organic matter and are fairly fertile. Mostly in depressions and bordering rivers and lakes, these forested wetlands are flooded most of the year and dominated by bald cypress or pond cypress. Cypress domes and strands reflect differences in soil conditions: domes form in shallow depressions which may be dry during part of the year, and strands occur along rivers and deeper water. Most accessible areas have been logged out; those remaining are rapidly being converted into cypress mulch. Plants have little salt tolerance.
